The global price of gold

Gold prices rose on Friday to the levels of 3650 dollars per ounce, heading towards a record high, and on its way to making gains for the fourth week in a row, as expectations of easing US monetary policy remained stable.

US data showed that the annual inflation rate remained stable as expected, following an unexpected drop in producer prices, while applications for unemployment benefits rose to their highest level in 4 years, confirming the weakness of the labor market.

Markets have already factored in a 25 basis point interest rate cut at the next meeting, with speculation mounting that a bigger cut is possible.

The United States is reportedly pressuring its group of Seven allies to impose higher tariffs on India and China over their purchases of Russian crude oil.

As for geopolitical events, the conflict in the Middle East has escalated, and Poland announced the interception of Russian drones that violated its airspace in the first incident since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

On the other hand, UBS expects the price of gold to reach 3,800 dollars per ounce by the end of 2025, up from the previous forecast of 3,500 dollars per ounce.

By mid-2026, the price may reach about 3900 dollars per ounce, according to forecasts, and the bank had previously predicted that the price of gold would reach 3700 dollars per ounce in the middle of next year.

UBS says expectations that the Federal Reserve will resume its monetary easing cycle due to weak jobs data are boosting investor appetite, and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty is boosting demand.
